Esther Elizabeth Knutson Smith, 84, of Humboldt died of a heart attack Sunday at Humboldt Care Center North. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Fort Dodge. Mrs. Smith was born in Thor and grew up in Eagle Grove. She later moved to Des Moines, where she worked as a receptionist for Iowa Methodist Medical Center. After living in Washington, D.C., during World War II, she returned to Beaverdale, where she and her husband owned and operated Smith's Photography. She retired as a bookkeeper for Boy Scouts of America and moved to Humboldt in 1994. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Des Moines. She is survived by a brother, Kermit Knutson of Eagle Grove.
