Lawrence Raymond Ransford was born February 1, 1909 at Eagle Grove, Iowa the son of Edward and Emma Hopkins Ransford. He graduated from Eagle Grove High School in the class of 1928 and attended Eagle Grove Junior College where he was a member of the first Junior College football team.

He was united in marriage to Thelma Cline of Eagle Grove on September 7, 1930 at Goldfield, Iowa. They lived for a time in Eagle Grove before moving to Mason City where they lived four years. They lived in Humboldt from 1937 – 1940 when they moved to Spirit Lake, returning to Eagle Grove in 1978.

Larry was employed by Northwestern Bell in the construction part of the company for 41 years, retiring in 1970. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Eagle Grove. He had been in Boy Scout work for 20 years, receiving the Silver Beaver and attained the rank of Eagle Scout.

He entered the Rotary Ann Home in 1985 and died there on February 24 at the age of 78 years, and 23 days.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma; one son, Tom , North Bend, Ore ; two daughters, Mrs. Roy (Delores) Fisher, Jr., Eagle Grove; and Mrs. Richard (Joyce) Martin, Des Moines; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Florence Gangestad, Eagle Grove; and Mrs. Wayne (Amy) Black, Burlington, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Emory and Howard; and one granddaughter, Valerie Ohrtman.

Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church, Eagle Grove, Friday, February 27 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. David Miller officiating. Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove.
