Florence Elizabeth Ransford was born on May 15, 1904, the daughter of Edward and Emma Hopkins Ransford at Eagle Grove, Iowa. She was educated in the Eagle Grove School System.

She was united in marriage to Maurice Henry Gangestad on November 3, 1921, at the Methodist Parsonage in Clarion. The couple made their home on a farm north of Eagle Grove for 25 years prior to moving to a farm southwest of Eagle Grove for 20 years. In 1965 they retired and moved into town. Maurice Henry Gangestad died on January 25, 1975. She was a member of Samuel Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove, the A.L.C.W., and the church circle. She made lap robes for the Rotary Ann Nursing Home.

Florence Elizabeth Gangestad died at the Good Samaritan Home in Villisca, Iowa on June 15, 1995. She had attained die age of 91 years, 1 month.

Survivors include sons, Melvin Gangestad and wife Phyllis, Two Harbors, Minn.; Kenneth Gangestad and wife Norma, Villisca; sister, Amy Black and husband Wayne, Burlington; daughter-in-law, Mary Gangestad, Goldfield; sister-in-law, Thelma Ransford, Eagle Grove; 12 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, 3 step great grandchildren, and 1 step-great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Richard, and three brothers, Emery, Larry, and Howard.

Funeral services for Florence Elizabeth Gangestad were held on Monday, June 19, 1995 at the Samuel Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. The Reverend Carlton Shaw officiated the 10:30 a.m. services. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Willim Funeral Home Ltd. of Eagle Grove was in charge of arrangements.
