E. F. Cotton Final Rites Thursday

Services for Everett F. Cotton, 76, Mitchell, who died Monday at a local hospital, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Congregational Church with the Rev. Hans Poppe officiating. The body will lie in state from 7-9 Wednesday at Milliken Funeral Home Chapel with Masonic rites at 8 p.m. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery with military graveside rites by the American Legion and National Guard.

Mr. Cotton was born in Eagle Grove, Iowa, on June 7, 1896 to Mr. and Mrs. William Cotton. He married Eugenia Elliott at Eagle Grove on April 2, 1924. He came to Mitchell in 1941, and in 1945 established the Cotton Jewelry Store which he owned and operated until he retired in 1960. Mr. Cotton was a 50 - year member of the Masonic Lodge and American Legion, a World War I veteran, member of the Congregational Church, and was active for many years in the Elks, Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis and Salvation Army.

He is survived by three children: Dr. Channing (Walker, Minn.); John Oliver (Beverly Hills, Calif.); and Mrs. Cheryle Smith (Canova); two brothers: Fred (Eagle Grove) and Chase (Los Angeles); and nine grandchildren. Mr. Cotton was preceded by his parents, his wife in 1964, four brothers, four sisters and three grandchildren. The family prefers memorials.
