Myrtle M. Hawkins, 94, of Greene, [New York] passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2001 at Rural Health Care Facility of Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich. Born in Eagle Grove, Iowa, on March 28, 1907, she was the daughter of the late Henry Burton and Abbie Harris Damon. Her first husband, John Glendenning and second husband, Gerald Hawkins predeceased her; her brothers, Harry Virgil Damon, Walter William Damon, Homer Kenneth Damon, Harris Burton Damon, Arthur Enoch Damon and Ivan Gerald; and her sisters, Sylvia (Damon) Anderson and Cleo (Damon) Hill, predeceased her; she was also predeceased by a son-in-law, Karl A. Kenyon; grandchild, Ronald Glendenning; and great grandchild, Nathaniel Kenyon Howland. She is survived by two sisters and brother-in-law, Ione Sherlock, Allen Park, Mich, and Alta and William Turner, Knoxville, Tenn.; one son, James Glendenning, Oceanside, Calif; and daughter, Joyce Kenyon, Smithville Flats; daughter-in-law, Lil Glendenning, Ft. Worth, Tex.; ten grandchildren, Kathy (Al) Meyers, Fla., John (Elizabeth) Glendenning, La., Karen Glendenning, Tex., Mark (Kathleen) Glendenning, Tex., Michael Glendenning, Calif., Karlene (John) Rice, Charlotte (Charlie) Newfield, Charlene Kenyon, Helene Kenyon and Marlon (Dawn) Kenyon, all of Smithville Flats, N.Y.; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She worked many years for the May Co. in California where she retired in 1966. Myrtle was an avid gardener for many of her retirement years and enjoyed sewing and crafts. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her. Private services, officiated by Assistant Pastor William Reid of the Berean Bible Church, Greene, are under the direction of the Root Funeral Home, 23 N. Chenango St., Greene. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Greene Emergency Squad, 8 N. Canal St., Greene, N.Y. 13778.
