William "Pat" Young Jr. was born December 13, 1916, the son of William Sr. and Johanna Baumann Young, at Eagle Grove, Iowa. He attended country school in the Derscheid School and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1934.

He served in the United States Army from 1941 to 1945.

He was united in marriage to Elsie Hautala of Chisholm, Minn., on March 8, 1943, at St. Louis, Mo. Pat worked at the hardware store in Eagle Grove before entering the service and after his discharge the couple farmed southwest of Eagle Grove.

The couple has lived at their present address in rural Eagle Grove since April, 1946.

He was a member of the United Church of Christ, the American Legion, and the Masonic Lodge.

William "Pat" Young Jr. died suddenly of heart failure, at his home on December 15, 1988, at the age of 72.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Michael; and one brother, Clarence.

He is survived by his wife, Elsie; one daughter, Katherine Olson, Eagle Grove; one sister, Mrs. Ralph (Deloris) Dye, Kansas City, Mo.; and two grandchildren, Wendy and Anthony.

Funeral services for Pat Young were held December 19, 1988 at 1:30 p.m. at the United Church of Christ in Eagle Grove. The Rev. Selva Lehman officiated and burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.

The Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
