Michael G [J]. Young, 23, a 1971 graduate of Eagle Grove Community High School, was killed early Tuesday morning near Montgomery, Minn, while on a regular assignment as a brakeman for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. Railroad officials declined to divulge on the nature of the mishap.

After graduation from E.G.H.S. in 1971, Young attended Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge for one year. He later returned to Eagle Grove where he was employed by the Co-op Service Station. He had worked for the Chicago Northwestern for only four months prior to Tuesday's fatal mishap.

Services will be held today (Thursday) at 2 p.m. at the United Church of Christ, Eagle Grove, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Surviving members of Young's family include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William (Pat) Young of Eagle Grove, and a sister, Mrs. Tom Olson of Perry.

Michael James Young, the son of William and Elsie Hautala Young, Jr., was born May 27, 1953 at Des Moines, la.

Mike graduated from the Eagle Grove Community High School in 1971 and attended Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge for one year. He worked at the Co-op Service Station for one year. He has been employed with the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for two years and for the last three months, he was employed by the railroad in Minneapolis.

Mike died in a train accident in Montgomery, Minn, on Tuesday, October 5 at the age of 23 years, four months and eight days.

Survivors include his parents, William and Elsie Young and one sister, Katherine (Mrs. Tom) Olson of Perry.

Funeral services were held Thursday, October 7, 1976 at 2 p.m. at the United Church of Christ, Eagle Grove. Rev. Howell Bischoff officiated and burial was in the Rose. Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
