1 December 1885 ---- 24 January 1887

We regret to announce the death of Verna Alice Middleton, daughter of L. B. and Mary Middleton, aged 14 months. The little one had been sick about two months, starting with a cold; and died Monday evening. The funeral took place Tuesday noon at the M. E. church, Rev. C. B. Winter conducting it, and the remains were taken to Troy cemetery. The family have the sincere sympathy of a large circle of friends.

A search of newspapers provided the proof that Verna Alice Middleton was born on December 1, 1885, not 1886. Her parents were Lyman Beecher Middleton and Mary Julia (Claude) Middleton;]
