Bruce Elmore Middleton was born on August 11[19], 1911 the son of Samuel and Etta James Middleton at Eagle Grove, Iowa. He received his education in the Eagle Grove school system and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1930. Bruce attended Eagle Grove Community College and received his diploma in 1933.

He co-owned and operated the Maplewood Dairy in Eagle Grove, with his father and brother Burdette. He retired form the dairy in 1962.

Bruce was united in marriage to Thelma Lack Holtz of Eagle Grove, on February 15, 1968 at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove. The couple has made Eagle Grove, their home since that time.

On July 7, 1993 he passed away at the Clarion Community Memorial Hospital in Clarion, Iowa following a short illness. He had attained the age of 81 years, 10 months and 18 days.

Bruce leaves in passing his wife Thelma of Eagle Grove; daughter Jane (Mrs. Warren) Gustafson of Burlington, Iowa and step-daughter Linda Peterson of Eagle Grove; also surviving are his grandchildren Bruce, Ann and Paul Gustafson, and step-grandson Chris Peterson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Burdette and Roger; and sisters Lura Midland and Dorothy Middleton.

He was a life-time member of the Eagle Grove United Methodist Church; a 50 year member of the Bower Lodge #464 and in 1948 served as Master of the Lodge. He was also a member of the Eagle Grove Chapter #123 of the Medina Council, the Mt. Lebanon Commandery of Clarion, the El Kahir Shrine of Cedar Rapids, and the Wright County Shrine Club. Apart from his achievements in the Masons, in 1986 Bruce was the recipient of the Roy and Cornelia Albaugh Award for community service. He served as a City Councilman for 14 years, and was Mayor of Eagle Grove for a term.

Funeral services for Bruce Elmore Middleton were held on Saturday July 10, 1993, at the Eagle Grove United Methodist Church. The Reverend Omar Pettersen officiated the 10:30 A.M. services and burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
