A. L. MIDDLETON DIES OF FRACTURED SKULL

Prominent Wright County Farmer Never Regains Consciousness

EAGLE GROVE, Iowa, Aug 19. – Adam L. Middleton, prominent farmer who was injured Saturday when the horse he was riding stumbled and he was thrown from the saddle, died yesterday. He suffered fracture of the base of the brain.

He had remained in an unconscious condition ever since the accident. Mr. Middleton had always been active in all matters pertaining to farming, and spent much time traveling in the state in the interest of farmers’ elevator organizations.

Adam Middleton was fatally injured when he was thrown from a horse last Saturday morning. He was driving cattle and started his horse off on a gallop after a calf which had left the herd. The horse stumbled and fell throwing Mr. Middleton over its head. He struck on his head on the hard ground.

Skull Fractured When Thrown From Horse. Never Gained Consciousness

A, L. Middleton, prominent Troy township farmer, died at the Emergency Ward about three o'clock Wednesday afternoon.

Mr. Middleton sustained a fractured skull when he was thrown from a horse last Saturday morning. He was driving cattle and started his horse off on a gallop after a calf which had left the herd. The horse stumbled and fell, throwing Mr. Middleton over its head. He struck on his head on the hard ground and he remained unconscious five days. His daughter, Myra, was with him at the time and summoned help. He was taken to the Emergency Ward in Eagle Grove and a consultation of physicians held. Dr. Bowen of Fort Dodge was also called into consultation. There was nothing the doctors could do to relieve his condition.

Mr. Middleton was one of Wright county's best known farmers. He has been closely, identified with the cooperative movement among farmers of the state and the middle west. He has been president of the Iowa State Grain Dealers association, and was a director of the Cooperative Journal. He has been, frequently called to Chicago and Washington to confer on farm problems. He owned and operated about 800 acres of land in Troy township.

He would have been 53 years of age on the nineteenth of next month.

Mr. Middleton is survived by his wife and three children, Tolford [Talford], Helen and Myra. A home was also provided for Mr. Middleton's brother's four orphaned children, Ethel, Robert, Francis and Harold.

At this writing no arrangements have been made for the funeral.
