June 9, 1896 --- June 26, 1986

Severt M. Stockdale, 90, died Thursday in Good Samaritan Village. Mr. Stockdale was born June 9, 1896, in Eagle Grove, Iowa, where he grew up on the family farm. He served in the Navy during World War I and received a degree from St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minn. He received his master's degree from the University of South Dakota. He was a school administrator in Fort Pierre, Scotland, Mcintosh, Onida and Mission before retiring to Sioux Falls in 1964. On Aug. 6, 1930, he married Sarah J. McCarter in Ipswich. Mr. Stockdale was a member of East Side Lutheran Church, Minnehaha Lodge No. 5, American Legion, A.A.R.P.. Retired Teachers Association and was past state chairman of World War I Barracks. His wife died Dec. 9, 1980.

Survivors include a son, James, Carmichael, Calif.; three grandchildren, two sisters: Mrs. Otto (Minnie) Nelson, Minneapolis; and Lilly Olsen, Issaquah, Wash. Services will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday in George Boom Funeral Home. Burial will be in Hills of Rest Memorial Park. Visiting will begin at noon today in the funeral home.

Funeral services for Severt M. Stockdale, 90, Sioux Falls, S.D., were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 28, 1986 at the George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls with Rev. Lyle Inglebret officiating. Burial was in Hills of Rest Memorial Park, Sioux Falls.

Severt M. Stockdale, son of Thomas and Mathilda Stockdale, was born June 9, 1896 at Eagle Grove, Iowa. He grew up on the family farm and served in the U.S. Navy during World War I. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., and went on to obtain his Masters Degree from the University of South Dakota. He was a school administrator in Ft. Pierre, Scotland, Mcintosh, Onida, and Mission before retiring to Sioux Falls in 1964. He was united in marriage to Sarah J. McCarter in Ipswitch, S.D. on August 6, 1930. Severt was a member of the East Side Lutheran Church, and active member of Minnehaha Lodge No. 5 in Sioux Falls, the American Legion, A.A.R.P., the Retired Teacher Association, and was past State Chairman of the World War I Barracks.

Survivors include his son, James S. Stockdale, Carmichael, Calif.; three grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Otto (Minnie) Nelson, Minneapolis, Minn., and Mrs. Lilly Olsen, Issaquah, Wash.; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah on December 9, 1980, his parents, two brothers, and one sister.
