Rites Tuesday for Laveta F. Morgan
Funeral service was held at 1:30 Tuesday afternoon for Laveta Fern Morgan of Thompson who died [December 5, 1992] at her home Saturday afternoon. She was 81 years old. The Rev. Ted Stowers officiated. Christy Norstrud was soloist and Eleanor Roper, organist.She was born August 10, 1911 at Sullivan, Indiana, the daughter of George and Clara Jordan Elwood. She moved with her parents to Iowa when she was three years old. She attended rural schools in Winnebago County and at Livermore and then high school at Eagle Grove.
She was married to Marion Morgan June 20, 1935, in Algona. They farmed in the Renwick and Luverne area until 1948 when they moved to their present farm north of Thompson. She was a longtime member of the Thompson United Methodist Church, was active in the circle and ladies aid, and received a lifetime membership pin.
Survivors include her husband, Marion; two sons and their wives, Darrell and Harriet Morgan of Thompson; Merlin and Sue Morgan of Lake Mills; a daughter and son-in-law, Roselyn and Lyle Matson of Rake; nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, a sister, Lois Elkin of Clarion, and a brother, Dallas Elwood of Corwith. She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers including her twin brother, Stoy, and two sisters.
Casketbearers were Lee Morgan, Luther Morgan, William Pattinson, Wayne Eastvold, Brent Matson, Bruce Matson, Kurt Matson and Corey Matson. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Thompson with Winter Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
