Charles William Clair was born on November 17, 1910, the son of Charles Sr. and Anna Stransky Clair, at Jewell, Iowa. He received his education in the Jewell area. Following his schooling he farmed in Hamilton County for many years. He was united in marriage to Hazel Bernsmeier on March 11, 1939 at Webster City, Iowa. The couple lived and raised their children in the Jewell area.
He had been a resident of the Southfield Care Center in Webster City for almost two years prior to his passing there on December 24, 1994. He had attained the age of 84 years, one month, and seven days.
He is survived by his wife Hazel of Eagle Grove, Iowa; daughters, Katherine Lunda and her husband, Marlin, of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; Sherry Banwell and her husband, Leigh, of Eagle Grove; one grandson, Robert Lunda and his wife, Kim, of Sergeant Bluff; a brother, Elmer Clair of Webster City; sisters, Emma Rabe of Belle Plaine, Iowa; Lucille Olson of Boone, Iowa; Francis, Broom of Jewell; Clarice Bernsmeier of Eagle Grove; and June Egland of Rochester, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Louis; and nine brothers and sisters.
Funeral services for Charles William Clair were held at graveside on Tuesday, December 27, 1994 at the Rose Hill cemetery in Eagle Grove. Minister Craig Miller was overseer at the 11 a.m. service.
