15 June 1875 ---- 18 April 1955

Annie B. Shurtz was born June 15, 1875 near Berlin, Germany. When 8 years of age she came to the United States. On October 1, 1893 she was married to Harry Shurtz at Onawa, Iowa. Three children were born to this union. They are Anita, Mrs. Tom Benedict of Eagle Grove, Iowa; Erna, Mrs. Tom Moore of Kanawha, Iowa; and Clarence who was killed in action in World War I while serving in the 108th Infantry of the Rainbow Division.

The family home has been Eagle Grove, Ia. since January 1908 when Mr. Shurtz came here as a Railroad employee. Mr. Shurtz passed away on May 6, 1951. Surviving are the two daughters, one grand-daughter and two great-grand daughters. Mrs. Shurtz is also survived by three brothers and one sister.

Mrs. Shurtz was an active member of the Congregational Church of Eagle Grove. She also was a member of the Rebecca Lodge for over 50 years and likewise a member of the order of the Eastern Star, and a Charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Eagle Grove and was a Gold Star member.
