LEONARD VAN DEELAN [DEELEN]

Leonard Van Deelan [Deelen] of 3916 S.E. 42nd St., Portland, Oregon and former Eagle Grove resident died on Thursday, Feb. 23, 1984 at the Fresno, Calif., Valley Medical Center, after suffering a heart attack five weeks ago.

Funeral services for Leonard Van Deelan [Deelen] will be held in the chapel of the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove on Thursday, March 1, 1984 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Scott C. Hall, church pastor officiating and burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove, with Masonic honors at the gravesite. Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Leonard Van Deelan [Deelen] was born in Iowa on Oct. 22, 1897, the son of Cornelius and Lizzie De'Boy Van Deelan [Deelen]. He was married to Agnes Enderson on October 29, 1919 at Sioux City, Iowa.

During his life, he was a brakeman for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad and lived in Eagle Grove for many years. Mrs. Van Deelan [Deelen] preceded him in death. For the past 20 years he had lived in Portland, Oregon and in 1957, he was married to Angie Fleming, who now resides in a nursing home in Kingsburg, Calif. In January, 1984, his only son, DeWayne Van Deelan [Deelen], died of a heart condition in Calif. Leonard attained the age of 86 years, four months and one day. He was a member of the Eagle Grove Masonic Lodge and the Retired Railroad Employees.

He is survived by his wife, Angie Fleming Van Deelan [Deelen] of Kingsburg, Calif.; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Jean Van Deelan [Deelen] of Selma, Calif.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, his son, and several brothers and sisters.
