Donald Orval William Hoffmann was born on December 1, 1937 to Orval and Dorothy Hoffmann at Renwick. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Renwick. He attended Renwick High School and graduated from there in 1955. On December 7, 1958 he was united in marriage at Corwith to Sharon Reddel of Wesley. To this union five children were born, Gail, Mark, Jean, Paul, Gary, all at home. He was a member of the Iowa National Guard for eight years. He was engaged in farming in the Renwick and Riceville areas until 1970. He was employed by the Donaldson Company of Cresco from 1967 until last August when sickness prevented him from continuing work. He was currently a member of St. Paul's Maple Leaf Lutheran Church.

Donald passed away on March 25, 1979 at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital of Osage following a
lengthy illness. He leave to mourn his wife, Sharon; his five children: Gail, Mark, Jean, Paul, Gary; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Orval Hoffman of Renwick; three brothers: Marvin of Beatrice, Neb.; Roger of Lake Worth, Fla.; David of Renwick; and one sister, Sharon (Mrs. David Wilson) of Clarion. Interment was at the Elmwood cemetery of Renwick with Lindstrom Funeral Home of Riceville in charge of arrangements.
