George Jorgensen Tjornehoj, 87, of Eagle Grove, died Sunday, June 27, 2004 at the Hamilton County Hospital in Webster City. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m on Wednesday, June 30, at the Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Funeral services will be held at ll a.m. on Thursday, July 1, 2004, at the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Revs. Paul and Susan Stone officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove.

George Jorgensen Tjornehoj was born January 1, 1917 in Alta Vista, Iowa. He graduated from Grafton High School in 1936 He enrolled in the Iowa State University's Dairy Industry and Creamery Management Program from 1936 to 1939. On May 26, 1940 he married Catherine H. Thompson in Leland, Iowa. He operated several creameries, including the Eagle Grove Dairy, which he owned and operated from 1957 to 1967. He sold insurance for 18 years after which he began working part-time for Geise Construction in Eagle Grove as collector of accounts from 1986 to 2001. He was a member of the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove and enjoyed participating in the weekly Men's Bible Study classes and serving on the council as well as Stephen Ministries. He looked forward to planting a garden, watching Cubs games, and attending Okoboji Bible Camp with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine, of Eagle Grove, four children; Mary Helen (Martin) Schaeferle, of Austin, Texas, Kathryn Tjornehoj, of Story City; Daniel M (Kristin) Tjornehoj, of Hudson, Wise, and Thomas G. (Barbara) Tjornehoj, of Franklin, Tenn ; 12 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers David, Kenneth, and Robert, a daughter, Jeanne L. Schweikhardt, and a granddaughter, Anna Katrina Tjornehoj. Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove was in charge.
