Grandma Whyte

Jane McMann was born December 31, 1829 in Kirriemuir Forfarshire, Scotland and died May 17th, 1920 at the ripe age of ninety years, four months and seventeen days.

She grew womanhood Scotland and was united in marriage to George Wilson Whyte December 21, 1856. To this union was born one son, George W. Whyte, of Goldfield, Iowa.

Mr. and Mrs. Whyte came to America in March 23, 1870 and settled in the Scottish settlement near Traer, Iowa. Later they moved to Reinbeck where they made their home until 1899 when they came to Goldfield in order to be near their son. The husband and father passed to his reward March 26, 1917.

Mrs. Whyte was formerly a member of the Tranquility, or Wolf. Creek Church, Tama County and later her membership was transfered to the Congregational church, the first church built in Reinbeck.

Grandma Whyte as she was familiarly known leaves one son, several grand children and great grand children, together with a host of friends both in Tama and Wright Counties-to mourn her passing.

For her, her earthly pilgrimage is ended. She journeyed far both as to distance, and the measure of her years. After the going of her beloved life companion, she walked on alone and the way seemed long and she was often weary and desired rest. Suffering much she was patient thru it all.

In the home of her son she received every care that devoted hearts could render, yet her home was not here, for she looked for a city which hath the foundations whose builder and maker is God.

She only tarried for she call of the Master, Monday evening the call came when for us the shadows were gathering but for her a greater radiance; for at evening time it shall be light. Quietly she obeyed the summons and fell asleep.

A devoted child of the King; a lover of His Word, she inherited the promises of all the saints in Christ Jesus.
