Xavier Wernet was born in Germany, October 3rd, 1852. He came to this country when he was 16 years of age and first went to Louisville, Kentucky and later moved to Indiana. From there he went to Shelbyville, Illinois and moved onto a farm. He was married there to Miss Priscilia Banks, January 21st, 1886. To this union eight children were born, all of whom survive, with Mrs. Wernet. They all live in Wright county except Andrew, who lives at Latimer, Iowa. The children are Joseph who lives on the home farm in Woolstock township, Henry, Robert, Andrew, Lena, Mary, Thomas, and Edith. Two brothers survive, one lives in Switzerland, and the other, Robert Wernet lives at Nashville, Tennessee and visited the late Mr. Wernet about two weeks ago. There are also two grandchildren, Greta Joy and Leonard Dale. The Wernet family moved to Wright county in 1896 and settled on the home farm in Woolstock township where they resided until they moved to Eagle Grove about five years ago.

Mr. Wernet was an honest, conscientious man in all his dealings and a kind and indulgent father. He was a faithful member of the Catholic church and a loyal American citizen. The entire community extends the bereaved relatives their heartfelt sympathy in the hour of their great loss.
