Funeral services for LeRoy M. Thompson, 81, Clarion, were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the United Methodist Church in Clarion with Rev. Charles Kellogg officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion. Willim Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Thompson died Friday, July 14, 2000 at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center in Mason City.

LeRoy Milfred Thompson was born Jan. 19, 1919 on a farm near St. Olaf, Iowa, in Wright County. He was the son of Tom and Anna Ludvigson Thompson. The family moved to Eagle Grove when he was 10 following the death of his father. He graduated from high school in Eagle Grove in 1937 and junior college in Eagle Grove. From Nov. 8, 1940 to Sept. 27, 1945, he served in the Army Signal Corps in Newfoundland during WW II. He married Gladys Julia Gates at the Methodist Church in Clarion on June 12, 1953. He worked for the Courthouse in Clarion, for the Clarion Rubbish Service when it was owned by Clarence Mickelson, for Van Raden Corporation and for Palco until his retirement in 1981. His wife died on Dec. 6, 1999.

Survivors are his children, Janet and Mark Zimmerdahl of Portland, Ore., David Thompson of Clarion, granddaughter, Kendra Zimmerdahl, brother and sister-in-law, Maynard and Lucille Thompson of Eagle Grove, sisters and brother-in-law, Hazel Barmore, Eagle Grove, Lavonne Tierney, Golden Valley, Minn., Thelma and James Jeffries, Leawood, Kan., sister-in-law, June Thompson of Iowa Falls; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, four brothers Harold, Hardy, Kermit and Arnet.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Clarion.
