John Vike funeral Tuesday p.m.

Funeral services for John Vike, 89, were held Tuesday afternoon at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home, with burial at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Rev. Arthur Anderson, pastor of the First Baptist Church, was in charge.

Mr. Vike died Saturday morning at the Rotary Ann Home where he had been in failing health since December. He had lived at the Rotary Ann Home for the past few years. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Gerald Hansen of West Des Moines; one grandson, and three sisters, Mrs. Lena Middleton of Eagle Grove; Mrs. Lawrence Solberg of Boone and Mrs. Jennie Larson of Vero Beach, Fla.

Mr. Vike was born at Jewell and attended school at Woolstock. He married Lotta Worrell of South English in 1910 at Eagle Grove. They had lived here since. Mrs. Vike died in 1968.

He was employed by the Chicago North Western Transport Company for 55 years, before his retirement.

He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Conductors, the B. of R.T., and the Masonic Lodge.

John Vike was born December 25, 1883 at Jewel, Iowa, the son of John and Rachael Teigland Vike.

He received his education in the Woolstock school.

He began working for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad at an early age, and retired as a conductor after 55 years employment.

John was united in marriage to Lotta Worrell of South English, la. on September 8, 1910 at Eagle Grove. The couple made their home in Eagle Grove at that time and were together until Lotta's death in 1968. After her death, John made his home at the Rotary Ann Home from October 1968 until his death on Saturday, May 26, at the age of 89 years, 5 months and one day.

In 1964, John was elected Grand Marshall of the Town and Country Days in Eagle Grove, an honor which he greatly appreciated.

John was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Brotherhood of Railway Conductors, the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen and the Baptist Church.

He is survived by a daughter Bernadine, Mrs. Gerald Hansen, West Des Moines; three sisters: Lena, Mrs. Homer Middleton, Eagle Grove; Anne, Mrs. Lawrence Solberg, Boone; and Mrs. Jennie Larson, Vero Beach, Fla. Also one grandson, Roger Hansen, San Diego, Calif.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29, at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home. Rev. Arthur W. Anderson officiated and burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
