DEATH CLAIMS MOTHER OF COUNTY RECORDER

Was Long Time Resident of Eagle Grove—Dies Four and a Half Months After Husband

Mrs. Jennie Newcomb Vaughn, widow of the late Dr. G. A. Vaughn, passed away last Tuesday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Edith M. Vaughn, in this city after a long illness of paralysis. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, the funeral party driving from here for a service at the Foll & Wilson parlors at Eagle Grove at 2:30, which was conducted by Rev. J. G. Eaton, with very much the same order of service as was conducted for the funeral of Mr. Vaughn who died Feb. 20 of this year.

The same group of friends, with the exception of one, acted as pallbearers at the funeral of Mrs. Vaughn who were at the services for Mr. Vaughn. Interment was made in the cemetery near Eagle Grove, in which city the family lived for many years.

Jennie Wells Newcomb was a native of New York state, having been born at Pike September 6, 1853. She lived there until married to Dr. George A. Vaughn, who practiced dentistry there for a year and a half after they were married, April 13, 1881. It was in 1883 that the doctor and his wife moved to Eagle Grove where all of their children were born. In 1916 they moved to Clarion to make their home with their daughter, when she began a period of employment in the court house. Of six children born to Dr. and Mrs. Vaughn one daughter died March 14, 1892, and those who survive are Mrs. H. M. Taylor of Shenandoah, R. C. Vaughn of Waukon; V. E. Vaughn of Des Moines, R. W. Vaughn of Mason City and Edith M. Vaughn of this city. Ten grandchildren are numbered among descendants of the deceased and all of them honored the memory of their grandmother by being present at the funeral. Two brothers, G. S. and W. M. Newcomb, who still reside in New York state, survive.

To Miss Vaughn and the other members of the family are extending the sympathy of the many friends.

Death Relieved Sufferings of Former Resident at Clarion Tuesday, July 5 th.

Brief mention was made last week of the death of Mrs. G. A. Vaughn of Clarion, a former resident of Eagle Grove. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon in charge of Rev. J. G. Eaton who prepared the following obituary.

Jennie Wells Newcomb was born in Pike, New York, Sept. 6, 1853, and died at her home in Clarion, July 5, 1927. She was married to George A. Vaughn, April 13, 1881. She came to Eagle Grove in 1883, living until 1916 when they moved to Clarion. Mrs. Vaughn had a stroke of paralysis last November and has been helpless and unconscious most of the time since. Mr. Vaughn died some four months ago and her condition was such that she never was told that he had passed on.

She is survived by five children, Miss Edith of Clarion, Mrs. Ethel Taylor of Shenandoah, Victor of Des Moines, Ray of Mason City and Roscoe of Waukon, Iowa, all being present at the funeral. She has two brothers living in the state of New York. Mrs. Vaughn was a kind and loving mother and will be missed by her children and many friends.
