Mrs. Rueben Wood Dies At Schleswig
Our community was shocked and deeply saddened Saturday evening upon learning of the unexpected death of Mrs. Wood. Gertrude Marguerite Wood was the eldest child of Jennie J. Whyte and Will A. Ottilie. She was born June 12, 1913 in Sanborn, Iowa and departed from this life Saturday evening, July 12, at the Ida Grove hospital. She reached the age of 28 years and one month. She was in excellent health and was taken to the hospital Saturday morning. At noon she gave birth to a long expected and welcomed little daughter, Joan Elizabeth. Her condition appeared satisfactory until about an hour afterwards when she suddenly, became seriously ill. All that medical skill could offer was used to save her earthly life but of no avail. About 6:30 she peacefully departed from this earthly life.

She moved from Sanborn, Iowa in 1918 with her parents to Manchester, Iowa. Here she received her education and graduated from high school in 1931. She was an examplory student held in high esteem by her classmates and teachers. She was active in all school activities, especially in athletics and music. She was a charter member of the Manchester Branch of the National Honor Society. She continued her studies at Iowa State Teachers College at intervals between teaching school and graduated with the class of 1937. It was while attending college that she met her future husband. She was a successful teacher in the Delaware county schools for seven years.

At an early age she became a member of the First Presbyterian church of Manchester and has since remained faithful to the Lord and Saviour, ever active in the work of the church.

On June l, 1938 she was united in marriage to Mr. Reuben Wood, a teacher in the Schleswig high school. The happy couple came to Schleswig to make their home. Mrs. Wood, due to her fine personality immediately became a member of our community. She with her husband became teachers in the Friedens Sunday School, she was a member of the choir, the Women's Union, The Dorcas Society, a teacher in the Dorcas Society, a teacher in the Daily Vacation Bible School and a member of the local study club. She was a gifted violinist and was willing to play at any special service in the church or any event in the community.

She had a friendly smile and ready "hello" for all she knew. The esteem and love in which she was held was evidenced by the many expressions of sympathy. She was preceded in death by her mother April 1, 1938. She leaves to mourn her death her devoted husband and infant daughter, her father Mr. Will Ottilie of Eldora, two sisters, Alice Mae of Cedar Rapids and Agnes of Arlington, two brothers, Donald J. of Iowa City and Robert of Schleswig, an aged grandmother, Mrs. Agnes Whyte of Goldfield, Iowa and other near relatives and a host of friends.

Services were held in the Evangelical Church, Schleswig, Iowa Tuesday morning. Services were also held in the Goldfield Cemetery.
