Former County Officer Dies In Grinnell

Edith Mae Vaughn, 8l, died at the Community hospital in Grinnell, Iowa, Monday, June 21. Prior to her hospitalization she had been a resident of Buckley cottage Mayflower Home in that city.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 23 in Sandvig Funeral Home and burial was in Rose Hill cemetery. Rev. Marion Blake officiated.

Miss Vaughn was born September 23, 1883 in Eagle Grove to Mr. and Mrs. George Arthur Vaughn.

She graduated from Eagle Grove schools and Ellsworth junior college in Iowa Falls. Following her graduation she taught in several rural schools in the community.

About 1910 she became deputy county recorder and in 1912 was elected county recorder. She held this office until 1932 when she retired.

She then moved to Oak Park, Ill., where she lived for 20 years. Since then she lived briefly in Clarion and Mason City and moved to Mayflower Home in 1964.

She was a member of the Eagle Grove Congregational church.

She is survived by three brothers Rae W. of Mason City, Roscoe C. of Tucson, Ariz., and Victor E. of Oelwein, Iowa.
