DR. G. A. VAUGHN BURIED HERE

Eagle Grove Pioneer Died at the Home of His Son at Waukon Sunday, February 20.

Dr. George A. Vaughn was born in Waupaca, Wis., June 25, 1854, and died at the home of his son, Roscoe, at Waukon, Iowa, Sunday night, Feb. 20, 1927.

When he was six years of age, his mother died and he was taken to New York state to be cared for by relatives. He studied dentistry, and after his marriage to Miss Jennie Newcomb in 1882, he came to Eagle Grove in 1883 and began, practicing his profession, which he followed until some eighteen years ago.

About six years ago the family moved to Clarion, where he has since resided with the exception of visiting periods with his children. He went to Waukon in November 1926, and soon afterwards took to his bed, from which sickness he never rallied.

Besides the wife, who is seriously ill at the home in Clarion, he leaves to mourn the memory of a loving and kind father five children: three sons, Roscoe, of Waukon, Rae, of Mason City, and Victor of Des Moines. The daughters are Edith, county recorder, and Ethel, now Mrs. Hilles, Taylor, wife of the superintendent of the Shenandoah schools. All of the children were present at the funeral. One daughter, Eunice, died March 14, 1892. He leaves also ten grandchildren, one brother, Charles A., who resided in this community many years ago but is now a resident of Glascoe, Kans. He also leaves, two half-sisters living in Kansas, and one half-brother living in Colorado. One brother, Edward, also a pioneer of Eagle Grove, died several years ago, as well as the sister, Mrs. Benjamin Wilcox.

Funeral services were held at the Foll & Wilson undertaking parlors Wednesday forenoon at 10 o'clock. Rev. J. G. Eaton having charge of the funeral rites. The pallbearers were all old friends of the deceased, namely, S. H. Williamson, Andrew Christensen, R. M. Smallpage, M. Armbruster, J. S. Fort and J. W. Porter. Interment was made in Rose Hill cemetery.

In the passing of Dr. Vaughn, Eagle Grove loses another of its pioneers who suffered the privation necessary in the building up of such a community. He was a man who stood high in his profession. Many old friends and neighbors showed their respect for the departed by their presence at the funeral ceremonies.
