Fred Vaksdal was born Dec 10, 1892 at Nordhorland, Norway to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Vaksdal. Shortly after his birth he was brought to his Lord in baptism and at the age of 15 renewed his baptismal covenant in the rite of confirmation.

In 1912 he came to the United States and settled at Ceylon, Minn. where he was employed by the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. In 1924 he returned to Norway to marry Anna Fatland and returned with her to the United Slates that same year moving to Eagle Grove, where they resided until her death in 1959. Following his wife's death he lived for a while in Eagle Grove then moved to Springdale, Ark., to live with his son Franklin. In 1960 he returned to Eagle Grove and made his home with the Art Westre family. Two years later he together with his friend John Carlson lived in the home of Edna Jergensen. In 1964 he moved with John Carlson to a home for the aged in Mason City. He passed away at Mercy hospital, Mason City on Thursday, April 8. He had attained the age of 72 years, 3 months and 29 days.

Mr. Vaksdal enjoyed good health for his many years, only the last several weeks brought him discomfort. About two weeks ago following surgery, it was discovered that he had cancer and this claimed his life. Mr. Vaksdal was a member of Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran church since Jan 2, 1926.

He leaves to mourn his departure a son Franklin of Springdale, Ark. 3 grandchildren. 3 brothers Einar of Oakland, Calif., Harold and Knut of Norway and 2 sisters, Mrs. Karl Bergenson of Minneapolis and Johanna in Norway.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 10 at 2:00 at Kastler Funeral Home with interment in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Funeral Saturday For Fred Vaksdal

Fred Vaksdal, 72, died last Thursday at Mercy hospital at Mason City. He had surgery about two weeks before his death. Mr. Vaksdal, a retired employee of the Chicago and Northwestern R. R. is survived by one son Franklin of Springdale, Ark., three grandchildren, one brother Einar and one sister Mrs. Carl Bergenson in Minneapolis and two brothers and a sister in Norway.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Kastler Funeral Home with Rev. H. W. Schiller in charge. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Vaksdal was born in Bergen, Norway but had resided here since a young man. He was employed for over 30 years by the Chicago and North Western R. R. in the maintenance and way department and as scale inspector. He wife died about five years ago.

Mr. Vaksdal returned to Norway following his retirement and spent several months there with his relatives. When he returned here in 1960 for two years and then with John Carlson moved to the Odd Fellows Home at Mason City.

Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Vaksdal and family, Mrs. Vaksdal’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andy Anderson of Springdale, Ark., formerly of Eagle Grove and Mrs. Carl Bergenson of Minneapolis were here for the funeral services.
