Mrs. Sam Skeie

Elena Karene Wickre was born in Skudeneshavn, Norway, June 19, 1875, to Lars Mortensen Wickre and his wife Abel Serine Wickre. She was baptized in Christ on July 4th that same year, received instruction and confessed her Christian faith at confirmation on October 6, 1889.

She emigrated to America, coming to Thor, Iowa, on February 3, 1906, and was united in marriage to Sam Skeie of Eagle Grove, October 12, 1907, and lived in Eagle Grove for a period of 23 years.

In 1930 Mr. and Mrs. Skeie went to live with their daughter, Mrs. Julia Gangestad, near Armstrong, Iowa, where Mr. Skeie passed away May 16, 1931 and Mrs. Skeie passed away Saturday, Feb. 24.

She is survived by one brother in Norway, Martin Wickre, and one brother, Ingvald Wickre, Rushford, Minn, and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Jorgenson, also in Norway. There are also four step-children: Mrs. Julia Gangestad, Armstrong, Iowa, Mrs. Josephine Johnson, Amboy, Minn., Mrs. Oscar Axness, Flandreau, So. Dak. and John Skeie, Parsons, Kan., together with a large number of relatives and friends

Funeral services were conducted at the Gangestad home near Armstrong on Monday morning and interment followed at Eagle Grove, where services were held Monday afternoon. Burial was in the family lot at Rose Hill cemetery.
