Last Services Held for Sam Skeie Mon.

Sam Skeie passed away at the home of the daughter, Mrs. Julia Gangstead at Halfa, Iowa, early Saturday morning, May 16, 1931, age 83 years and 6 days. He has been in failing health for several years and the past two weeks he had been confined to his bed most of the time.

He bore his suffering patiently but all that medical aid and loving hands could do seemed of no avail, and the loving Saviour called him home.

Sam Skeie was born in Avaldsnes, Norway, May 10, 1848. He came to this country in 1871 and stopped in Chicago, Ill., for a while, later he went on to Wisconsin and the same year in 1872, he came to Badger, Iowa, and settled there. On Oct. 15, 1872 he was married to Isabell Dahl. She passed away in 1900. To this union four children were born, namely, Mrs. Julia Gangstead, Halfa, Iowa, Mrs. Josephine Johnson, Amboy, Minn., Mrs. Malinda Axness, Flandreau, S. D. and John Skeie of Parsons, Kan.

In 1907 Mr. Skeie was married to Lena Wickre of Thor, Iowa. He lived in Eagle Grove for 35 years. The last year he lived with his daughter, Mrs. Julia Gangstead. He is now survived by his wife and the four children, 25 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren.

Many relatives and friends of the sorrowing family expressed sympathy by sending flowers and kind remembrances and “as we looked at the peaceful face within the casket, surrounded by flowers and friends, we felt that he was not dead but as one transplanted ot a more beautiful and happy home, there to await those left to grieve for him.”

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Sandeno at Halfa Monday morning at 9:30, and by Rev. T. J. Severtson at Eagle Grove at 2:30 Monday afternoon. Burial was made in the family lot in the Rose Hill cemetery at Eagle Grove.
