Patricia Benson, 85, of Iowa Falls, passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at Scenic Manor. Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Saturday, December 31, 2016 at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls. Burial will be at the Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:30 am until service time on Saturday at the church. Woodley Funeral Home, LLC of Iowa Falls is caring for Pat and her family.

Patricia (Pat) Benson was born on May 25, 1931 in Iowa Falls, Iowa to Roy and Elsie (Herrel) Parland. She was baptized into the Christian faith in her youth. She attended school in Iowa Falls, Iowa and graduated with the class of 1949. Pat attended Ellsworth Community College where she received a teaching certificate. She taught kindergarten for one year and first grade the second year in Popejoy, Iowa. She was very proud of her class of 1963. After teaching in Popejoy, her parents persuaded her to pursue a four year degree in education at the Iowa Teachers College. On March 27, 1955 she married Wendell Benson. They lived, farmed and raised three children, Sandi, Jeff and Sherri, near Popejoy. Pat was confirmed in her Christian faith at First Lutheran Church in Dows, Iowa where she was active teaching Sunday school and held offices in the Ladies Aid. She worked in the Alden school system for several years. In 1982 Pat and Wendell built a new home in Iowa Falls and joined Bethany Lutheran Church. Pat enjoyed bible studies, the ladies group and working with children in the after school program. She loved to travel and they took family vacations out west. Pat and Wendell enjoyed trips to Hawaii and the Caribbean. She was able to travel to Greece, Turkey and Rome. She was an avid reader and loved having family around.

Pat will be dearly missed by her children, Sandi (Steve) Ites of Iowa Falls, Iowa, Jeff Benson of Bangor, Michigan and Sherri (Greg) Brokmeyer of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Erin (Cort) Howard of Ames, Iowa, Stacie (Carlos) Tovar of Houston, Texas, Seth, Katherine and Madison Benson of Bangor, Michigan, Alexandra and Dylan Brokmeyer of Houston, Texas; one great-grandson, Carson Howard and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.

The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to J.D.R.F. (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) or United Cerebral Palsy.
