Grace Gertrude Kelling was born April 23, 1905 at Renwick, Iowa, the daughter of George and Christina Miller Kelling. She graduated from Renwick High School and Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, Iowa. She then taught school in Wright County for several years.

She was united in marriage to Guy W. Hanson on Jan. 22, 1925, at Goldfield, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Wright County area, before moving to Eagle Grove in 1942 where they operated the Hanson Machine Shop for a number of years. Grace assisted Guy with the operation, and after a few years, their son Jerry joined in the operation. Mr. Hanson died in 1974 after a lengthy illness.

For the past several years Grace has been an alterations seamstress for the Spangler Clothing Store.

Grace died at the Trinity Regional Hospital, Fort Dodge, on Thursday, March 8 at the age of 78 years, 10 months and 15 days. She is survived by her son, Jerry, Fort Dodge; two brothers - Floyd Kelling, LuVerne, and Carl Kelling, Renwick; three grandchildren - Joan Cullen, Fort Dodge; David Hanson, Mpls., Minn., and Ellen Jacobson, Mpls., Minn., and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, four brothers, and a son, Marion, who died in World War II.

Grace was a member of the United Church of Christ, Order of the Eastern Star and a Gold Star Mother member of the auxiliary of the V.F.W. and was very active in church work.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 10, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Church of Christ. Rev. Kenneth Reiter officiated and burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
