Mrs. McGuire, 79, Died Monday; Last Rites Held Today

Laura Parker McGuire, 79, wife of Charles C. McGuire and a long-time resident of Belmond, passed away Monday at her home. Although she had been in poor health for about four years, her death came very suddenly and without warning.

Funeral services were held this morning at St. Francis church, with Rev. R. A. Ormsby officiating. Burial was in St, Francis cemetery. Fulton Funeral home was in charge of the funeral and the following served as pallbearers: Emil Bock, Jim Finn, Ed Kennedy, a. P. Thompsen, J. W. Kaufman and L. B. Oberhauser.

Born the daughter of Patrick and Caroline Parker at Eau Claire, Wis., on Feb. 5. 1871, Laura Parker moved to Ackley with her family in her early youth. She was married to Charles C. McGuire on May 8, 1895. The sad occasion of her death occurred on their 55 wedding anniversary.

The couple spent all their married life in Belmond, and Mr. McGuire was in the clothing business here for 52 years Mrs. McGuire was a member of the St. Francis Catholic church, a member of the Catholic Daughters and St. Anne’s Study club. She was also a charter member of the Kensington club.

Mrs. McGuire is survived by three daughters—Laurette, Mrs. H. S. Leslie of Waverly; Zola, Mrs. John Boylan of Watertown, Minn.; and Ursullne, Mrs. Donald Grillo of South Bend, Ind.; also nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.

She also leaves four sisters—Mrs. Thomas Cashman of Beloit, Wis., Mrs. John Schultz of Oxnard, Calif., Mrs. Fred Gross and Mrs. Francis Kelly of Brock, Sask., Canada; and one brother, James Parker of Simpson, Sask., Canada.

Mrs. McGuire was preceded in death by two sons, Harold and Cyril; a brother William and whom she and her husband reared as one of their own children; a second brother, Leo; and one sister, Lulu Finn.

During her extended ill health, Mrs. McGuire was patient and uncomplaining. Her cheerful friendliness and willing helpfulness will be sorely missed by her many friends and the entire community joins her husband and family in mourning her death.
