Amanda Elizabeth Marley McCart, the daughter of Alonzo and Annie Carothers Marley, was born on June 21, 1896 at Trinity Springs, Ind. She grew up and attended school in Trinity Springs and graduated from high school in Indiana. Later she attended college and received her teachers certificate and taught rural school both in Indiana and in Troy Township south of Eagle Grove.
She was united in marriage with James H. McCart on Dec. 23,1920 in Indiana. The couple made their home and farmed in Troy Township south of Eagle Grove for many years. They retired, and moved to Eagle Grove in 1958. Mr. McCart died in April of 1971. She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church and the Troy Culture Club.
She died on Thursday night, Jan. 17, 1985 at the Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge, where she had been a patient for nearly three weeks after suffering a stroke. She attained the age of 88 years, 6 months and 26 days.
She is survived by a daughter, Annis, Mrs. Richard Dyas of Eagle Grove; a son, George McCart of rural Eagle Grove; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, Mrs. Doris West; a sister, Ethel Sims and two brothers, Herb Marley and George Marley.
Funeral services for Mrs. Amanda E. McCart, 88, of Eagle Grove, were held on Mon., Jan. 21,1985 at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist' Church in Eagle Grove. Rev. Scott C. Hall officiated and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Visitation was held at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home on Sunday.
