Lucille A. Hinkley was born on August 9, 1902 the daughter of Guy and Olive Hinkley at Eagle Grove, Iowa. She received her education in the Eagle Grove School System and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1920. She then attended the University of Iowa in Iowa City. She received her B.A. in Political Science in 1925. While at the University she was a member of Phi Omega Pi Sorority. She was united in marriage to Einer Johnson on November 26, 1925. She worked as a teacher and Principal at Janesville, Iowa for three years, while her husband completed his Dentistry Degree. The couple made their home in Eagle Grove. She served as Worthy Matron of the Eagle Chapter of the Eagle Grove Eastern Star in 1939. She also served as Instructor, Grand Chaplin and ultimately Worthy Grand Matron from 1948 to 1949 of the Grand Chapter of the Eastern Star. For seven years she served as Secretary and on the Scholarship Committee of the Grand Chapter. Einer Johnson passed away in 1985. She entered the Tompkins Health Center in Fort Dodge.

She was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove, Woman's Club, Equality Club, A# Music Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, the V. F. W. Auxiliary, and the A. A. U. W.

Lucille A. Johnson died at the Tompkins Health Center on April 6, 1995 at the age of 92 years, 7 months, and 27 days.

Survivors include her two sons, Richard Clark Johnson and his wife Billie of Great Falls, Montana; Guy Alan Johnson and his wife Dorothy of West Des Moines; six grandchildren and eight great-grand children; a sister, Dorothy Middleton, Eagle Grove; and a sister-in-law Florence Johnson of Phoenix, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, David Hinkley, and an infant brother, Burton.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 8, 1995 at the Willim Funeral Home in Eagle Grove, Iowa. The Reverend Omar Pettersen officiated the 10:30 a.m. service. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove, Iowa. Willim Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
