Final Services Held for O. F. Olson

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon for O. F. Olson, from the St. John's Lutheran church in Norway township with the pastor, Rev. N. A. Gangsei in charge. Burial was made in Rose Hill cemetery. The following obituary was prepared by Mr. Olson's pastor, the Rev. Gangsei:

Ole Framness Olson was born in Olen, Norway. May 6, 1868. At the age of five years he came with his parents to America. They were Nils and Ingeborg Olson. They arrived with other immigrants at Nevada, Iowa, July 4, 1873. His parents resided in Story county, Iowa, until Ole was 15 years when they came to Wright county, Norway township. There they made their home and at this place O. F. Olson lived for 51 years.

On Dec. 1. 1894, he was united in marriage to Martha E. Olson by the Rev. H. C. Holm. To this happy union seven children were born. This happy marriage lasted until Aug. 11, 1930, when Mrs. Olson passed to her eternal reward.

For the past nine years Mr. Olson has been ailing with diabetes and at times suffered much, but the last few years he has improved considerably under the insulin treatment, so much so that he found interest in visiting his old friends and neighbors. Friday last he took ill, yet no special alarm was felt but his Creator and Maker had decreed that his time of grace and span of life was to be terminated. His Maker's summons came to him quietly and suddenly Wednesday, Aug. 1, 1934, at about 1:30 p. m. at the age of 66 years, two months and 25 days.

Those who today mourn the passing of a considerate and loving father are his children, Sadie Elmira. (Mrs. H. G. Riley of Eagle Grove); Nora Amelia, (Mrs. Ralph Peterson of Goldfield); Joseph Sanford, Mabel Diane and Alma Florence and Melvin Oray of Kanawha who have resided with their father at home, and Irene Madeline of Eagle Grove. There are three grandchildren, Margaret Ann and Duane Gordon Peterson of Goldfield and Harold Roger Riley of Eagle Grove, besides a host of old neighbors and friends.

His father preceeded him in death 26 years ago, and his mother whom he so tenderly and lovingly cared for nine years ago.

O. F. Olson knew the rigors and trial of pioneer life. With his parents he labored and loved to build up the community which for 51 years became his place of residence. He took a lively interest in communal affairs and sought in every way to be a true citizen of this land. He helped to erect this St. Johns church where he together with his own and neighbors worshiped, and in which he held membership all his life. He was a friendly man, well thought of and esteemed by his neighbors. He sought Rev. Holm's counsel and comfort, both days of Joy a s well as in days of sorrow. He was always thoughtful of his family and sought to provide for them the best he knew how.

He enjoyed to have his friends and neighbors come to visit him, was always grateful when they shared with him the bread of life. He told his pastor he was content to let the Lord's will be done. His children ministered kindly to their father in his illness. Shortly before he passed away and up to the time his life flickered out he was in prayer to his Lord.

We pause as a neighborhood to pay him the last tribute, and humbly we say: " Thy Will be Done" and we pray, "Lord teach us to apply our hearts unto wisdom, and to wait upon Thee." Peace be to his ashes-Ames.

Those who attended the funeral from out of town were: Nels Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Johnson and son, Mrs. Tom Hill of Jackson, Minn., Markus Olson, Sioux Falls, S. D., Mrs. C. A. Sorensen, of Clementsville, N. D., Mr. and Mrs. Carl Olsen, Ames, Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Johnson, Iowa Falls, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Nebe, Story City.
