Well Known Eagle Grove Lady Dropped Dead in Her Own Kitchen Last Saturday Noon.
Without previous sickness of any kind or nature, Mrs. Luther Mussulman died at her home in this city last Saturday noon. The family had finished dinner and Mr. Mussulman had left the house temporarily. He returned when he thought he heard her call and found her lying on the floor. She died almost instantaneously. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. H. Gross and was well known and respected by everybody. She was an Ideal mother and a model homemaker.
The relatives have the universal sympathy of the entire city and surrounding community in their sorrow.
(By Rev. W. G. Muhleman)
Mary Ellen Gross was born at York, Pa., March 5, 1873. When four years old she moved with her parents to Mindston, Ill., and later to Cerro Gordo, Ill.
She was converted and joined the M. E. church at this place in 1893. She later transferred to Goldfield and on March 23, 1916, transferred to the Eagle Grove M. E. church where she has since held her membership and where she has also been an active member and a faithful attendant.
On December 28, 1899, she was united in marriage to Luther Mussulman. Three children were born to them, Marie, now Mrs. Martin Larson, Gladys and Lloyd.
For a while they lived on a farm a few miles east of Eagle Grove, then they moved to their own farm south of town where they lived till about five years ago when they moved to their home at 811 South Commercial avenue, where they have since lived.
Because of the many find qualities of character, Mrs. Mussulman had many close friends. She was always cheerful and willing to do for others. Her entire nature and character can be covered in the one statement that she was a Christian and did what she could. Her artistic tastes were shown in her home which was adorned with beautiful oil paintings the product of her own brush.
They were making plans to return to the farm again in the spring.
Her death came suddenly at noon Saturday, January 9, 1926, at which time she was 52 years, 10 months and 4 days old. She is survived by her husband, the children already mentioned, her aged father and mother, two brothers and many relatives and friends. The husband and family have the sympathy of the entire church and community.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the M. E. church. Rev. W. G. Muhleman preached the sermon. Interment was made in Rose Hill cemetery.
I cannot say and I will not say
That she is dead, she is just away.
With a cherry smile and a wave of the hand,
She has wandered into an unknown land.
And left us dreaming, how very fair
It needs must be since she lingers there.
Think of her still as the same I say
She is not dead, she is just away.Card of Thanks
