16 April 1873 ---- 5 April 1909

Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Penfield arrived Friday evening from Lemmon, S.D., with the body of their son Emmett, whose death was mentioned in last week's MONITOR. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in the Christian church, Rev. H. C. Littleton preaching the sermon, and the remains were buried in Evergreen cemetery. A large number of old friends of deceased were present to pay their last tribute of respect to his memory.

Mr. Penfield's death was due to an abscess on the brain. Several months ago he sustained an injury to the head by the falling of a pump, but continued to attend to his work around the farm up to within a few days of his death, when he suffered an attack of grip. An abscess then formed on the brain, and death soon followed.

Emmett D. Penfield was born April 16th, 1873 near Liscomb, Grundy county. In March, 1890, he came with his parents to Wright county, where he grew to manhood. About nine years ago, he located near Herman, Minn. August 2nd, 1905, he was married to Josephine Walker at Herman, and about two years later moved to a farm near Lemmon, where he resided at the time of his death. A baby was born to Mr. and Mrs. Penfield a short time before his death.

Mr. Penfield was well known to many readers of this paper, and more especially among those living in the neighborhood in Lincoln township where the family lived for a long term of years and to them the news of his death was a shock indeed. He was a good citizen and neighbor, as those ratify who knew him, a kind husband, and his untimely passing is an irreparable loss to the young wife as well as to the little one who will never know a father's loving care. The relatives will have the sincere sympathy of friends at this place and at Lemmon.
