Carol Ellen Underberg, the daughter of Irwin and Betty Jindrich Underberg, was born on June 1, 1962
at Fort Dodge. She died at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on Friday evening, Sept. 4, 1981. She had been hospitalized for the past seven weeks because of injuries received in an auto accident near Tripp, South Dakota. Carol grew up in Eagle Grove and graduated from the Eagle Grove High School with the Class of 1981. She was very active in high school athletics, including the girls basketball team and the track and cross country teams and was active in the Health Education Class. She moved to South Dakota in June of 1981 and was employed as a nurses aid at the Good Samaritan Home in Tripp, South Dakota.

She is survived by her parents, Irwin and Betty Underberg of Eagle Grove; her sisters, Jane, Mrs. David Marz of Tripp, S.D.; Helen, Mrs. John Tressler of St. Paul, Minn.; Valerie, Mrs. Ed Condon of Boone, Iowa; Amy, Tricia, Sandy, Kay and Joan Underberg, all of Eagle Grove; her brothers, John and Dan Underberg, both of Eagle Grove; her grandparents, Mrs. Etta Underberg of Bode, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. John Jindrich of Swaledale, Iowa; her special friend, Todd Bietz of Tripp, S.D. and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Carl Underberg.

Funeral services for Carol E. Underberg were held on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 1981 at 1 p.m. at the Sacred
Heart Church in Eagle Grove. Rev. Fr. John Hemann officiated and burial was in the Calvary Cemetery,
Eagle Grove. Rosary services were held on Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home.
Memorial services will be held in Tripp, S.D. at a later date.

Carol Underberg dies from injuries in pickup accident

Carol Underberg, 19, died Friday, Sept. 4 as the result of injuries received in a July 19 pickup truck accident in South Dakota. The former Eagle Grove resident had been under intensive care since the accident. A 1981 graduate of Eagle Grove high school, Carol had moved to Tripp, S.D. to work at a nursing home. She and her sister, Sandy, were in a pickup truck when it went off the Hutchinson county road throwing Carol from the vehicle and injuring her spine. She incurred other complications while under hospitalization. Carol's funeral was held Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove. Her obituary can be found inside this week's paper.
