Mrs. Sylvia Viola McVicker, the daughter of Sorn and Mina Sando Jensen, was born at Rutland, Iowa,
on Sept. 20, 1895. She died at the Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge on Thursday, Sept. 3, 1981. She attained the age of 85 years, 11 months and 13 days. Sylvia grew up and attended school at Rutland. She was the postmistress at Rutland. She was united in marriage with Claude David McVicker of Eagle Grove on November 20, 1920 at Fort Dodge. The family lived in Eagle Grove and Mr. McVicker was employed by the Chicago, Northwestern Railroad. He died in 1964. She was a member of the Samuel Lutheran Church, the Brotherhood of Railroad Engineer's Auxiliary, the Order of the Eastern Star and the White Shrine.

She is survived by six daughters, Florence, Mrs. Milo Cook of Lansing, Mich.; Myrtha, Mrs. Harold Clark of Denver, Colo.; Mrs. Mary Brown of New Boston, Mich.; Elizabeth, Mrs. James Rogers of Azuza, Calif.; Claudia, Mrs. Marion Whittier of Palm Springs, Calif.; Mena Kay, Mrs. Larry Pearson of St. Paul, Minn.; several grandchildren; a brother, Alvert Jensen of Royalton, Minn.; several great grandchildren and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Donald; an infant daughter, two grandchildren, three sisters and one brother.

Funeral services for Mrs. Sylvia McVicker, of Eagle Grove, were held on Saturday, Sept. 5, 1981 at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Thomas Jolivette officiated and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. The Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
