29 October 1842 ---- 23 August 1907

Died -- Samuel Hawkins, third son and fourth child of Henry and Emma Hawkins, was born in the city of Toronto, Province of Ontario, Canada, on the 29th day of October 1842. He passed away at the home in Dakota City August 23rd, 1907, at the age of 64 years, 9 months, 24 days. His childhood days were passed in the city of Toronto and on the farm in the county of Raynham. At the age of 7 years he removed with the family to the states, residing at Chicago and Belvidere, Illinois, in this latter place he attended school and spent the years of his early manhood.

In March 1869 he came to Dakota City where he has resided continuously for nearly forty years. On the 29th day of April 1873, he was joined in wedlock to Sarah Lois Brown who, with their four children, Archer G., of St. James, Minn., Walter L. of Grundy Center, Iowa, Mrs. Julia McDirmid of Humboldt, and Mrs. Jean M. James of Eagle Grove, and three grandchildren survive him; two children, Harry and Edith having preceded him in their infancy. About fourteen years ago he was stricken with a partial paralysis from which he never fully recovered but his affliction was borne with patience and fortitude. His ailment was progressive and two weeks ago he was confined to his bed. During his last days he was given all the care and comforts that human hands could give. He was a devoted husband and father, a kind, loyal neighbor and friend.
