Leonard K. DeCamp was born January 30, 1919, in Adel, the son of Orvel and Violet (Merchant) DeCamp. He married Avenell Flower of Eagle Grove, June 26, 1941. He was a graduate of Redfield High School and Iowa State Teachers College with a degree in business. He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Navy. He served outside Pearl Harbor during the Dec. 7 attack and during the Korean conflict. He retired in 1957 as chief warrant officer. He was a teacher at Woden-Crystal Lake from 1962 - 1967, and at United Community from 1967 - 1979. He then formed Elkady Enterprises, an accounting and tax business. He was a member of the Evangelical Free Church, Retired Officers Association, A.A.R.P., National Retired Teacher's Association, American Legion, USS Minneapolis Association, National Association Uniformed Services.

Leonard K. DeCamp, 73, of Boone, died of heart failure Wednesday, November 25, 1992, at Boone County Hospital in Boone. He was preceded in death by two brothers. He is survived by his wife, Avenell; a son, Larry of Bloomington, Ill.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Dennis Bartholomew of Eldora, and Dona and Gary McEnelly of Delano, Minn.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Temple, of St. Louis, Mo.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 30, at the Evangelical Free Church with the Rev. Dorington Little officiating. Burial
was in Boone Memorial Gardens with military graveside services by the Boone Veterans Council. Memorials may be given to his church or Hidden Acres. Schroeder Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
