Burdette Barney (Zip) Rolland, the son of Andrew and Petra Qumai [Kvamme] Rolland, was born on Oct. 10, 1908 at Eagle Grove, Iowa. He lived most of his life in Eagle Grove and for many years was employed by the Chicago, Northwestern Railroad and then later by Knutson Ready-Mix and Jim Deimerly. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Europe and was awarded a Silver Star for bravery.
He died at home in Eagle Grove on Friday morning, Sept. 23,1983 after suffering an apparent heart attack. He attained the age of 74 years, 11 months and 13 days.
He is survived by a brother, Arthur Rolland of Rockford, Ill., several nieces and nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mrs. Mabel Baker.
Funeral services for Burdette B. Rolland, 74, of Eagle Grove, were held on Monday at 2 p.m. at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Rev. Paul Schaedig, pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church officiated and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery with the Flag Presentation by members of the Eagle Grove Veterans Organization.
