Oliver Carlson was born June 12, 1922, the son of John and Olga Tinvall Carlson, at Manson. He attended school at Manson, and graduated from Manson High School in 1939. He was baptized and confirmed at the Augustana Lutheran Church in Manson, where he was a lifelong member. He was united in marriage to Ardene Detweiler of Manson. The couple later divorced. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1942, and received an honorable discharge in 1946. He was employed at the Hormel Packing Plant in Fort Dodge, and retired from there.
Oliver Carlson died August 23, 1988, at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center, Marshalltown, at the age of 66 years, two months, and 11 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters. He is survived by one son, Dennis, Roanoke, Va.; four daughters, Diane Adaire, Fort Dodge; Victoria Nahnsen, Eagle Grove; Laura Baldus, Omaha, Neb.; and Pam Sinnwell, Des Moines; one sister, Margaret Aljets, Manson; and 17 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Oliver Carlson were held at 10:30 a.m. on August 26 at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. The Rev. Paul Schaedig, pastor at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove, officiated and burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
