Verla May Hoadley was born March 19, 1908, to Robert and Anna Johnson Hoadley, Sr., at Earlville, Iowa. She graduated from Kanawha High School in 1925 and attended college in Des Moines before attending School of Cosmetology in Minneapolis, Minn., where she worked for two years after school. On February 24, 1937, she was united in marriage to Warren F. Willert at Webster City. They lived and farmed south of Eagle Grove until 1947 when they moved to Eagle Grove and he operated the D-X Service Station for a few years. She worked for the Eagle Grove Greenhouse in the early 1960's. She was active in the Senior Citizens Center at Eagle Grove.

Verla May Willert died Sunday, September 21, 1997, at the Community Memorial Hospital in Clarion at the age of 89. Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Julia Hoadley, Elmhurst, Ill., and Pat Hoadley, Clear Lake; 4 nieces and 2 nephews; and many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Warren, in 1983; and 3 brothers, Dail in infancy, Robert, Jr., in 1988, and Howard in 1991.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, September 24, 1997, at 1:30 p.m., at Willim Funeral Home, Eagle Grove, with the Reverend H. W. Schiller officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Eagle Grove. Willim Funeral Home, Eagle Grove, was in charge of arrangements.
