John Moeding, 84, of Fort Dodge, died Friday, November 16, 2018 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home following a courageous battle with cancer. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Corpus Christi Church. Military honors will be presented by the US Army and VFW Post 1856. Interment will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Visitation will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, with a Celebration of Life to share memories of John at 7:00 p.m. at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
John Eugene Moeding, the son of Frank and Edna (Orsland) Moeding, was born July 31, 1934 in Thor, IA. He graduated Eagle Grove High School in 1952, served in the Army from 1954- 56, graduated Eagle Grove Junior College in 1959 and received a BA degree from SCI (now UNI) in 1962. On May 10, 1957, John was united in marriage to Marilyn Sadler. The couple made their home and raised their 6 children in Manson until moving to Fort Dodge in 1999. John was employed as a teacher and school bus driver in Manson from 1962 until 1991. He also worked in construction, grocery store, gas station, photography, Twin Lakes lake patrol and a Justice of the Peace. He enjoyed time spent fishing and hunting, taxidermy, traveling, but most of all being with family.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Marilyn; his children Lori (Peter) Hintz of Burlington, WI, Jack (Laura) Moeding of Thornton, CO, Peter (Sonja) Moeding of Fort Dodge, Susan (Chris) Udermann of Longboat Key, FL, Mary (Jim) Rinsem of Gilbert, AZ and Jayne (Keith) Kolacia of Fort Dodge; 17 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; his twin sister Joann Sego. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
