David Eugene Gunderson, the son of Gunval and Christian Gunderson, was born on a farm in Wright County near Rowan, Iowa, on August 10, 1918. He grew up on the family farm and attended the rural schools near his home. He was employed at the lumber yard in Rowan and also farmed near Rowan as a young man. On March 8, 1954, he was united in marriage with Marilyn Hallagan at Yankton, S.D. The couple lived in Eagle Grove and he was employed at the grain elevators for a few years and then was an employee of the Umthun Trucking Company for 17 years. The family lived in Fremont, Neb. for a few years while an employee of Umthun's. They moved back to Eagle Grove in 1972. He was a member of the United Church of Christ in Eagle Grove
He died at the Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge on Monday evening, January 2, 1984 at the age of 66 years, four months and 22 days. He had been in poor health for the past several months.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Gunderson of Eagle Grove; a daughter, Sharon Gunderson, Eagle Grove; two brothers, Don Gunderson of Clarion; Merle Gunderson of Rowan; three sisters, Mrs. Doris Franklin of Eagle Grove, Gladys, Mrs. Paul Wallace of Visalia, Calif.; Luelda, Mrs. Carroll Wiser of Portland, Ore.; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services for David E. Gunderson, 65, of Eagle Grove, were held on Wednesday, January 4, 1984 at 11 a.m. at the United Church of Christ in Eagle Grove. Rev. Kenneth R. Reiter, church pastor, officiated and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Visitation was held at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home on Tuesday.
