Rodean M. Frakes, 86, of Audubon, Iowa, and formerly of Goldfield, Iowa, passed away Saturday, November 10, 2018, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa. Rodean M. Frakes was born June 1, 1932, in Goldfield, Iowa, to Roy and Myrtle (Gosnell) Hilderbrand. She grew up in Goldfield and graduated from Goldfield High School in 1949. She attended Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester, Minnesota graduating in September 1952.
On December 26, 1953, Rodean married Laurence Frakes at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove, IA. She resided in Goldfield for a large part of her life. She lived in Greene, IA, for a short time returning to Goldfield where she lived until August 2014 then moving to Rotary Ann Apartments until June of 2017, when she moved to Audubon, IA.
Rodean briefly worked at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, IL. She used her nursing degree at McFarland Clinic in Ames, IA, Hamilton County Hospital in Webster City, IA, Community Memorial Hospital in Clarion, IA, and as the Director of Nursing at the Rotary Ann in Eagle Grove, IA, for many years. Nursing was her passion and took pride in taking good care of her patients.
She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield. Rodean crocheted and knitted many items for mission work through the church. She enjoyed baking, gardening, and taking walks in the woods to pick berries to make jellies and jams.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Laurence; and two sisters, Pauline Henry and Marjorie Whyte. Rodean is survived by her sons, Larry (Connie) Frakes of Audubon, IA, Roy (Tami) Frakes of Tama, IA and Bill Frakes of Goldfield, IA; grandchildren, Eli (Mandy) Frakes of Long Grove, IL, Megan (Kyle) Kjergaard of Audubon, IA, Colson, Callie and Mary Kate Frakes of Tama, IA, Jordon Frakes of Vincent, IA, Justin Frakes of Webster City, IA and Miranda (Stephen) Heid of Fort Dodge, IA; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Rosemary Byrd of New Hampton, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 17, 2018, at the Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield, IA. Visitation with family will be during the luncheon at the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield, IA, following the graveside service. Memorials may be left to the family’s wishes. Hockenberry Family Care in Audubon, Iowa, is in charge of the arrangements.
