Dorothy G. Mickelson was born April 7, 1914, to Christian T. and Mable A. Kirkeberg Mickelson at Thor, Iowa. She attended rural country schools and graduated from Eagle Grove High School before attending Eagle Grove Junior College and the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She lived in Thor and Eagle Grove area most of her life and taught school at Norway #6 and other rural schools for over 20 years. She was a member of the Ullensvang Lutheran Church in Thor, Naomi Circle, and A. L. C. W. of Ullensvang Lutheran Church, Sons of Norway, and the Eagle Grove Saddle Club.

Dorothy G. Mickelson died Thursday, November 27, 1997, at her home at the age of 83. Survivors include her sister-in-law, Elaine Mickelson, Webster City; nephew, Keith Mickelson and wife, Pat, Eagle Grove; six nieces, Linda Hanson and husband, Bill, Fort Dodge, Marlys Reiland and husband, Marv, Iowa City, Mary Kay Bruhl and husband, Elwyn, Fort Dodge, Carol Marcks, Baton Rouge, La., Nancy Dashner and husband, Doug, DeKalb, Ill., Susan Friderych and husband, Bill, Muscatine; 16 great nieces and nephews; and 10 great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Clifford J. Mickelson and Kenneth V. Mickelson.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 2, 1997, at 1:30 p.m. at Ullensvang Lutheran Church in Thor with the Reverend Dale T. Jenson officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Eagle Grove. Willim Funeral Home of Eagle Grove was in charge of arrangements.
