Don Ray Stephens, the son of Don M. and Ilys Ione (Griffith) Stephens, was born on January 25, 1943, in Goldfield, Iowa, in the home of Orville and Bernice Griffith, who was a registered nurse. He was raised and educated in Goldfield, graduating from Goldfield High School in 1961. After graduation, he worked for Morton Foods, L&L Service, G&H Motor Parts, Nelson’s Petroleum, Meredith Publishing, Stephen’s Trenching and as the financial secretary for Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Don also served as a police officer in Goldfield, Renwick, Corwith and Kanawha and taught computer classes in Eagle Grove. In retirement, Don continued in video photography and programming computers and communication devices. Don was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and involved in the Goldfield United Presbyterian Church as a Mariner, Trustee and custodian.
Don passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2018, at Israel Family Hospice Home in Ames, at the age of 75 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dean and Dale Stephens; great-grandson and sister-in-law, Eleanor Stephens. Survivors include his son, Rodney Stephens (Christina Segar) of Mason City; daughter, Dawn Nelson (Dan) of Stratford; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dan Stephens of Goldfield and Dennis Stephens and friend Barb of Eagle Grove; sisters, Neola (Nicky) Stephens Kvale (Jim) of Goldfield and Nancy Stephens Graf (Ron) of Oakdale, MN; sister-in-law, Karren Stephens of Clear Lake and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 7, 2018, at Foust Funeral Home in Goldfield with Pastors Jim Kvale and Fredrick Killian officiating, visitation is from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Wednesday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield, with lunch to follow at the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
