Norman Draper Bangs, youngest of four children of Rufus and Laura Bangs was born in North Bennington, Vermont, August 27, 1842 and died at Eagle Grove Iowa, June 24, 1923 after an illness of several months being therefore 81 years, 7 months, and 27 days old. He remained at North Bennington until 1863, when the family removed to Mendota, Ill. removing shortly thereafter to Plainfield, Ill., where he remained until 1881, moving from there to Humboldt, Iowa, and in 1889 to Eagle Grove, Iowa, which place has since been his home. In 1873 he was married to Sylvia Therman of Canton, Ill. to which union seven children were born, Clara, who died in 1882, Oscar, who died in 1920, Theodore, of Eagle Grove, Donald of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Mrs. Ralph Dunbar and Mrs. Louise Thompson, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Mrs. Florence Freese of New Orleans, La.
Mr. Bangs was the manager and owner of various business enterprises here during the early growth of our city. For several years he was the obliging day clerk at the Occidental hotel. After leaving the Occidental he clerked in hotels at Des Moines and other Iowa cities. He had many friends who deeply regret his passing, but who realize that be is now from the pain which he so cheerfully endured for the past two years. The sympathy of all is extended the sorrowing relatives.
