Vyvienne Alice Dockendorf was born September 8, 1900, at Sheldon, the daughter of Alfred and Bertha Gillespie Dockendorf. She graduated from Sheldon High School in 1918, and taught school for a time. She was united in marriage to Ralph William VanZwol of Le Mars, September 28, 1923, at Sheldon. They lived in Eagle Grove from 1928 to 1963 where Dr. VanZwol had established a dental practice. After his retirement, they moved to Mesa, Ariz., where they lived until 1979 before returning to Eagle Grove. Dr. VanZwol died December 26, 1981. Mrs. VanZwol stayed in Eagle Grove until 1985, then moved to Melbourne to make her home. She was a member of the United Church of Christ, Eagle Grove. Vyvienne VanZwol died after a sudden illness May 14, 1991 at her home in Melbourne, at the age of 90 years, eight months, and six days. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant daughter, Vey Loree; granddaughter, Jayne VanZwol; three sisters, Faye Schfranski, DeEtte Dockendorf, and Carol Campion; and one brother, Francis. She is survived by her two sons, Ralph William, Eagle Grove; and Richard, Pacific Grove, Calif; eight grandchildren; 12 greatgrandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Harold (Dorothy) Moon, St. Paul, Minn.
Funeral services were held May 18 at the United Church of Christ, Eagle Grove, with the Rev. Kevin Cassiday-Maloney officiating at the 10 a.m. services. The interment was held in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. The Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home, Eagle Grove, was in charge of arrangements.
